Scooping Technique & Libero Line Defense with PRO VOLLEYBALL PLAYER Gage Worsley

Gage Worsley & Coach Donny Hui • Elevate Yourself

NCAA Champion & Professional Libero (Out of System)

Session Overview

Pro libero Gage Worsley joins Coach Donny Hui for Part 2 of their libero masterclass, focusing on the 'J-stroke' scooping technique for digging balls hit near the face and chest, as well as elite line defense positioning. Worsley demonstrates live reps and provides instant technical feedback on how to keep hard-driven high balls in play.

Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles

Use an upward 'J-stroke' scooping motion with the forearms when digging balls driven hard at chest or face height so the ball pops straight up instead of ricocheting backward.
When defending the line, start slightly inside to bait the hitter into swinging line, then take a crisp lateral read step into the ball's flight path.
Keep your outside shoulder angled slightly inward on line defense so every dig naturally rebounds toward the center of the court.

Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:

"J-stroke scoop up""Turn the outside shoulder in""Hold the line seam"

Why Recommended for Coaches:

Rare pro-level insight into the J-stroke upward scoop and how elite liberos bait and dig line attackers.
