Session Overview
In this clinic lecture, three-time Olympic gold medalist Karch Kiraly explains how to teach players to read the game faster by tracking visual keys from the pass, setter body posture, and attacker approach angle.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Discipline blockers and defenders to follow a strict eye sequence: Ball (pass trajectory) β Setter (hands and hip angle) β Ball (set flight) β Hitter (approach and shoulder).
- Eliminate 'ball-watching' by questioning players in practice about what they saw on the opponent's side of the net before the swing.
- Recognize which offensive options are eliminated when a pass pulls the opposing setter off the net or toward the right pin.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Ball, setter, ball, hitter""Know which hitters are eliminated by the pass""Move your feet on the setter's release"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Offers a deep dive into Karch Kiraly's eye-sequence framework for blockers and backcourt defenders during live rallies.
