Session Overview
Volleyball University explains why forcing every serve into your body's midline slows down reaction time against fast, modern serves. Instead, passers learn how to establish lateral platform angles outside their frame to expand range and pass cleanly under pressure.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Avoid trying to get your entire body behind fast serves when a quick lateral platform angle can beat the ball to the spot.
- Drop the inside shoulder and rotate the forearms to redirect balls contacted outside the hip toward the setter.
- Keep the head and shoulders balanced while extending the platform away from the torso on high-velocity serves.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Angle outside the hip""Drop the inside shoulder""Platform beats the feet on fast serves"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Concisely illustrates the transition from beginner midline passing to modern angle-based passing outside the hips.
