Session Overview
Part 2 of Coach Donny's 5-part setting series focuses on developing hand sensitivity and contact timing to eliminate double contacts and loud slapping sounds. He demonstrates how to absorb and redirect the ball smoothly using finger pads and coordinated wrist extension.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Contact the ball on the pads of all ten fingers rather than the palms or stiff fingertips.
- Synchronize wrist flexion and extension so both hands cushion and release the ball simultaneously.
- Avoid stabbing at the ball on its way up; wait for it to enter your setting window above the forehead.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Soft finger pads""Absorb and extend""Quiet hands on contact"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Essential tutorial for curing stiff hands and teaching young setters how to cushion and release the ball cleanly.
