Session Overview
Coach Donny Hui breaks down how to achieve solid palm-and-finger contact and heavy forward topspin when spiking. He demonstrates wall and self-toss drills that train hitters to mold their hand to the ball and snap their wrist at maximum reach.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Keep your fingers spread and relaxed in a claw-like shape so your entire hand contacts the surface of the ball.
- Contact the back-top portion of the ball at full arm extension and snap the wrist forward to create diving topspin.
- Practice standing self-toss and wall-hitting reps to master clean topspin contact before adding a full jumping approach.
