Session Overview
In Part 2 of his comprehensive arm-swing series, Coach Donny Hui focuses on optimal mid-air body positioning, keeping the ball in front of the hitting shoulder, and wrapping the hand over the ball for heavy topspin. Includes slow-motion breakdowns and live-hitting examples.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Keep the ball slightly in front of your hitting shoulder at contact so you can transfer forward body momentum into the spike.
- Open your torso to the setter at takeoff and rotate through the ball toward your target zone in the air.
- Wrap your open hand over the top half of the ball with a relaxed wrist snap to generate downward topspin and safe follow-through.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:

Why Recommended for Coaches:
