WIPE THE BLOCK - Volleyball Tip Of The Week #6
C

Session Overview
Coach Donny Hui demonstrates how attackers can score off tight sets that are trapped close to the net by using the 'wipe' technique against the opposing block. Instead of swinging straight down into the blockers' hands, hitters learn to push and swipe the ball laterally across the outside blocker's hands out of bounds.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Recognize tight sets early where a full downward arm swing would go directly into the blocker's penetrated hands.
- Contact the side of the ball with a firm, controlled hand and push it into the blocker's outside forearm or hand so it ricochets out of bounds.
- Keep your body balanced in the air to avoid touching the net while extending high to swipe across the block.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Swipe the outside hand""Push through the seam""Stay off the net"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Gives coaches a practical out-of-system and tight-set scoring solution that prevents hitters from getting roofed on sets trapped on the tape.
