Session Overview
Coach Mark Burik identifies the three biggest mechanical mistakes that rob volleyball players of spiking power: leaving theset behind the body, failing to open and rotate the torso, and decelerating the arm swing on contact.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Never overrun the set; stopping one step earlier keeps the ball in front of your hitting shoulder for maximum leverage.
- Coil your torso by pulling the hitting elbow back and keeping your non-hitting arm up as a counterbalance.
- Accelerate your hand speed all the way through the ball rather than slowing down to guide the shot.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Stop early, keep ball in front""Coil the torso""Fast hand through contact"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Directly targets the three most common power-leaks in youth and adult attackers with clear visual corrections.
