Session Overview
In this live 1-on-1 coaching lesson, Coach Donny diagnoses a player's spiking approach footwork and shows how lengthening the penultimate stride and angling the block foot unlocks noticeably higher jump reach and hitting power.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Accelerate into a long, low penultimate step to build horizontal velocity before planting to jump.
- Turn the final block foot slightly inward to brake forward drift and channel momentum straight up.
- Sync the backward arm swing with the penultimate step so both arms drive upward together at takeoff.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Push long on step two""Turn the block foot in""Swing arms back and up"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Great practical example of how a coach can spot and correct a sluggish approach in just a few reps.
