Session Overview
Coach Donny teaches middle blocker attacking footwork for hitting quick 1-balls, 3-balls, and back-1s. He explains how middles must transition off the net, open their hips to the setter, and get in the air before the setter contacts the pass.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Transition at an angle away from the setter so your 3-step approach naturally faces the setter's hands.
- For a first-tempo 1-ball, your penultimate step should be planting as the pass is dropping into the setter's hands.
- Keep your hitting arm loaded high in the air so you can snap quickly in any direction around the opposing middle.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Face the setter on approach""In the air with the pass""High elbow, fast wrist"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Crucial guide for training middle hitters to stay available on every pass and create an angled runway toward the setter.
