Session Overview
Part 1 of Coach Donny's classic Spiking Footwork tutorial teaches both 3-step and 4-step approaches for right-handed and left-handed hitters. He demonstrates foot placement, stride rhythm, and how to angle the plant feet toward the setter.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Right-handed hitters use a Left-Right-Left 3-step pattern (or Right-Left-Right-Left 4-step pattern); left-handers mirror this.
- Build progressive acceleration from a controlled first step into an explosive final two-step plant.
- Angle your final plant steps toward the setter so your hips and shoulders naturally open to the ball.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Left-right-left for righties""Slow to fast acceleration""Plant open to the setter"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
A foundational 2.1M+ view tutorial that clearly illustrates approach footwork for both right-handed and left-handed attackers.
