Session Overview
Coach Donny Hui breaks down right-side blocking mechanics for opposite hitters and front-row setters defending against opposing outside hitters. The tutorial covers starting base position, footwork to close the pin, hand positioning to take away the line or angle, and reading the attacker's approach.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Start slightly inside the court to help on quick middle or pipe attacks before releasing to the right pin once the set goes outside.
- Line up your outside hand on the hitter's hitting shoulder or slightly outside it to prevent getting tooled down the line.
- Angle your outside hand inward toward Zone 6 so hard-driven balls rebound back into the middle of the opponent's court.
