Session Overview

Coach Donny Hui explains the 'Hands Face Position 6' principle for volleyball blocking, teaching blockers how to angle their palms and wrists inward toward the center-back of the opponent's court. By turning the outside hand toward Zone 6, blockers deflect spikes back inside the court rather than allowing attackers to tool the block out of bounds.

Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles

  • Always angle your palms and forearms toward Position 6 (center back) on the opponent's side of the net, regardless of where you block along the tape.
  • Spread fingers wide and keep thumbs pointing up with wrists rigid so the ball rebounds cleanly into the opponent's court.
  • Avoid flat, parallel hands on the pins, which create an easy surface for attackers to ricochet the ball out of bounds.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Hands face Zone 6""Big stiff hands""Turn the outside wrist in"

Why Recommended for Coaches:

One of the clearest visual explanations for teaching pin and middle blockers how hand angle prevents block tools.
