Session Overview
Coach Donny leads a live 16-minute defensive training session focused on three back-row defenders reading and digging attacks from both the left-side and right-side pins. Throughout the live reps, he provides real-time coaching feedback on base-to-read footwork, adjusting court depth around the block, and controlling platform angles on crosscourt and line swings.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Shift defensive court alignment smoothly as the set goes to the left or right antenna so line and crosscourt seams are covered
- Split-step into a balanced, stationary posture right as the pin hitter contacts the ball to maximize lateral reaction speed
- Absorb pace and angle the platform back toward the center of the court rather than letting hard crosscourt swings ricochet out of bounds
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Adjust your angle to the pin hitter""Split-step and freeze on contact""Turn your outside shoulder toward target"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Offers a real-time look at how to coach three back-row defenders adjusting their angles against live left-side and right-side pin hitters.
