Session Overview
Coach Donny Hui explains the team formations, communication calls, and transition routes for Free Ball Defense and Down Ball Defense. He shows how front-row hitters pull off the net to prepare for a full transition approach while the setter releases to the target zone and the three back-row players form a balanced passing triangle.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Communicate 'Free!' or 'Down!' loud and early so front-row blockers know whether to peel off the net immediately for transition offense.
- On a free ball, the setter releases early to the net target zone while the three back-row passers and outside hitter form a clean passing formation.
- On a down ball (standing attack), front-row players pull off the net and load slightly deeper to dig a topspin-driven ball while staying ready to transition and hit.
