Session Overview
Prime Coaching Sport demonstrates a simple partner digging and forearm-passing progression designed specifically for elementary and youth players in grades 3 through 6. One partner tosses an underhand ball while the receiver practices moving their feet into a balanced stance and popping the ball accurately back into the tosser's hands.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Pair beginners up with controlled underhand tosses so they can focus on clean forearm contact before dealing with full-speed serves or hits
- Teach young players to step toward the ball and contact it on their flat forearms between the wrists and elbows
- Switch tosser and digger roles after every 5 to 10 reps to keep both partners focused and counting accurate catches
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Flat forearms like a pancake""Move your feet to the toss""Pop it right back to your partner's hands"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
An ideal introductory partner drill for teaching young beginners forearm platform contact and footwork without overwhelming them.
