Session Overview

Coach Donny Hui details team defensive transitions and court coverage when the opponent sets their right-side (opposite) attacker. He demonstrates how the left-front and middle blockers close the block, how the right-front off-blocker transitions off the net to cover tips, and how the back-row trio shifts to defend line, cross-court, and deep block touches.

Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles

  • Left-back (Position 5) shifts down the line behind the block to cover line shots and short tips down the tape.
  • Right-back (Position 1) slides into the cross-court angle outside the middle blocker's hands to dig hard cross-court swings.
  • Right-front (Position 2) pulls off the net toward the middle of the 10-foot line to defend off-speed tips and roll shots.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Shift on the back-set read""Find the seam outside the block""Cover the campfire tip"

Why Recommended for Coaches:

Completes the pin-defense system by showing how responsibilities mirror and adjust against right-side attacks.
