Session Overview
Coach Tod Mattox presents 2-Contact Queen of the Court, a fast-paced small-sided warmup game that restricts teams to only two touches per side. By forcing players to pass and immediately attack or place the ball on the second contact, the drill sharpens first-ball control, court vision, and defensive anticipation.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Limit each side to two contacts so the first touch must be high, controlled, and middle-court playable
- Encourage attackers on the second contact to scan the opposing court for open seams and deep corners
- Keep rotations rapid between challenger waves so players get continuous movement and ball-control touches
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"First touch high to the middle""See the open court before you swing""Stay low and read the second contact"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
A high-rep small-sided game that forces athletes to control their first touch and read open court spaces under time pressure.
