Session Overview
In 'The Chase' sideout drill, two 6v6 lineups compete to race through all six rotations by stringing together sideout kills and transition points while the opposing side tries to catch and pass them.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Teams only rotate clockwise after meeting the specific sideout + bonus-ball criteria in their current rotation.
- Because both sides are simultaneously racing to complete all six rotations, servers and defenders stay locked in to prevent the opponent from rotating.
- Coaches can adjust the rotation requirement (e.g., first-ball kill vs. winning two rallies in a row) to match the team's level.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"First-ball sideout moves us forward""Stop their rotation with tough serving""Know your rotation and transition fast"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Injects high-intensity scoreboard pressure into rotational sideout practice as teams visually race each other around the court.
