Session Overview
With over 1 million views, Coach Donny Hui's classic jump float tutorial breaks down both the one-handed and two-handed toss variations, 3-step and 4-step footwork patterns, and how to transfer forward jump momentum into a heavy, flat-trajectory float serve.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Choose between a two-handed lift toss (easier to keep spin-free) or a one-handed toss on the right step, and drill the timing until automatic.
- Draw the hitting elbow straight back during the final right-left plant steps so the arm is already loaded at takeoff.
- Jump forward as well as upward so your body weight drives through the center of the ball with a rigid wrist.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Load the elbow on the plant""Jump up and forward""Lock the wrist at contact"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
The definitive tutorial on comparing one-handed versus two-handed jump-float tosses and troubleshooting common footwork timing errors.
