Session Overview
Former U.S. Women's National Team Assistant Coach and UCLA Head Coach Alfee Reft uses game film to teach the mechanics and tactical strategy of elite jump float serving. He explains the 9/10 consistency standard, the four seam lanes, and specific mechanical adjustments for deep versus short serves.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Hold servers to a relentless 9-out-of-10 consistency standard while targeting the four primary seam lanes between passers.
- For deep float serves, keep the elbow high, lift through contact slightly, and drive the palm flat toward the back baseline.
- For short float serves, maintain a deceptive approach speed and soften the contact impulse so the ball dies right over the net tape.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Attack the four seam lanes""High elbow, flat palm drive""Serve with tactical intention"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
An outstanding combination of technical jump-float mechanics and national-team serving strategy from Alfee Reft.
