Session Overview
In Part 5 of his setting tutorial series, Coach Donny teaches the footwork, timing, and release mechanics of the jump set. He explains why setters must contact the ball at the peak of their jump—never on the way down—and how to use fast wrists since leg extension is no longer available in the air.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Time your jump so you contact and release the ball at the highest point of your jump—setting on the way down kills set power and consistency.
- Because your legs are already in the air, rely on fast wrist and elbow extension to push the ball all the way to the pins.
- Only jump set when you are balanced and under the ball; stay on the floor for difficult, off-balance passes.
