Session Overview
In Part 4 of his 5-part setting series, Coach Donny explains the footwork and body alignment adjustments required when setting passes that are off the net. He shows setters how to square their hips toward the outside antenna and leave the set safely off the tape so attackers have a full range of shots.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Release from the net quickly to get your feet behind the off-the-net pass rather than reaching backward.
- Square your hips and shoulders directly toward the outside antenna target before contacting the ball.
- Set the ball 3 to 5 feet off the net when setting from deep court so the ball does not travel diagonally into the blocker's hands.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Beat the ball off the net""Square hips to the antenna""Keep the set off the tape"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Teaches setters how to turn bad passes off the net into high-percentage hittable swings without trapping their outside hitters.
