Session Overview
Coach Donny breaks down how to set middle quick attacks—specifically 1-balls (A quick), 3-balls (B quick), and back-1s (C quick). He explains how the setter must adjust set height to match the middle hitter's jump timing and use quick, short finger-wrist action to place the ball right into the hitter's swing window.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- On a 1-ball (A quick), the middle hitter is already in the air before the setter touches the ball—deliver the ball directly into their hitting hand with a quick wrist flick.
- On a 3-ball (B quick), push the set into the gap 6 to 8 feet away from the setter while keeping the trajectory low and fast.
- Communicate constantly with your middle blocker to calibrate whether the set needs to be higher, tighter, or further off the setter.
