Session Overview
Clear whiteboard walkthrough of how to run a 5-1 volleyball rotation using the Outside-Follows-Setter lineup rule, detailing all six serve-receive formations, overlap boundaries, and base defensive switches.
Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles
- Place the primary outside hitter directly behind the setter in rotational order so your strongest passer-attacker is always opposite the opposite hitter.
- Verify front-row to back-row and left-to-right overlap rules in each of the six serve-receive stacks before the server contacts the ball.
- Release the setter toward Zone 2.5 on serve contact while keeping the three primary passers balanced across Zones 1, 6, and 5.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Outside follows the setter""Check front-to-back overlap""Release to target on serve contact"
Why Recommended for Coaches:
Makes teaching the 5-1 lineup order intuitive for junior and high school players by anchoring every rotation around the outside hitter following the setter.
