Session Overview

SD Volleyball Videos presents a chapter-by-chapter visual guide to all six rotations of a 5-1 offense. For each rotation (1 through 6), the video demonstrates the base alignment, where players stand and switch when serving, and how the team stacks and transitions in serve receive.

Core Biomechanical & Tactical Principles

  • Break each of the six rotations into two clear phases: Service (switching immediately to base defense) and Serve Receive (stacking to pass, then transitioning to attack).
  • When the setter is in the front row (Rotations 4, 3, and 2), the opposite hitter is in the back row and can be used as a right-back 'D' attack option.
  • After the first ball is sent back over the net in serve receive, all front-row and back-row players immediately transition to their standard base defensive zones.
Verbal Coaching Cues for Practice:
"Know your Serve vs Serve-Receive spot""Setter release on server contact""Get to base defense after our attack"
